Memorial Day Service 

Commander-in-Chief Ted C. Connell


The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is honoring all Past Commanders-in-Chief this Memorial Day with a wreath laying ceremony at their respective gravesites.

Ted C. Connell was the Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States during 1960-1961.

Ted C. Connell worked his way through the ranks of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting as a Chaplain in 1947.  Two years later, he was Post Commander of Killeen VFW Bob Gray Post 9192.  He served as State Commander in 1955-1956 and by 1960 he was involved with the organization on a national level.

During the group’s 61st National Convention, Ted was elected as Commander-in-Chief for the 1960-61 term.  He was the second youngest member and the first Texan to serve in the position.

After reaching the top of VFW organization, Ted continued to serve in other key positions.  He received presidential assignment and was appointed chairman of the National Security Committee of the VFW.

Ted C. Connell served as Mayor of Killeen from 1962 to 1966.  He died September 16, 2001, at the age of 76.
