District14 VFW Auxiliary President Monthly Comments

   May 1, 2022

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

As a retired teacher, I still feel May is a month of closure, followed up by renewal. Once May rolled around, no matter what school district I was teaching in, we had to think about closing the school year by finishing up the curriculum, reporting the progress, celebrating the accomplishments, and advancing our students on to another school year. Excitement was in the air, sometimes so much that it was hard to get through the dreaded testing days. All the while, the administration is looking at the upcoming year. Isn’t this how it is in the VFW Auxiliary?

In April, we were consumed with completing our projects and reporting our work. Program totals were analyzed and rewarded at the District 14 Convention. So much preparation went into recognitions and celebrating the end of a successful term. Thanks again to our Posts 9192 for the Luau dinner and entertainment, and to 3892 for hosting the District 14 meeting, with a beautiful joint Memorial service and a wonderful lunch in between the sessions. A BIG Congratulations to all the students who provided entries for our art and singing contests.

Immediately we began looking at the next year by selecting a new slate of officers for our Auxiliaries. I am honored to have been elected to be the 2022-2023 President for District 14 VFW Auxiliary. District 14 Installation was held at the end of our District Convention meeting, to become effective at the State Convention in Durant, OK when new Department officials are installed on June 18.

The curriculum (program books) will be provided, and initial state training will be held on July 7-9 at the Holiday Inn Midtown in Austin. This is open to all Districts and Auxiliary members and promises information to improve and deliver! More detailed training for District 14 will be announced shortly after. The programs are consistent and offer methods to reach out to our Veterans who need our assistance. Please avail yourself to ALL training sessions and set and obtain new goals for the new year!

One more reminder, the District 14 Picnic will happen on May 21, which happens to be Armed Forces Day. It will be held at the Marble Falls VFW 10376 and believe me, they have already started planning a wonderful, fun day. Your Post received their provision list in March and April, but another can be obtained by calling me. You can help by reminding them to get the items delivered by Friday, May 20! Please remember your donations of beautiful cakes for the District 14 Auxiliary Cake Auction. What a powerful fund raiser this is, as there are always so many beautifully designed cakes made by our ten auxiliaries.

Yes, May is a fun month to celebrate, and start all over.

See you soon!
