District 14 VFW Auxiliary President Monthly Comments

  March 2021

Dear Auxiliary Presidents, Sisters and Brothers,

The road that we are traveling together this year has been a challenging one indeed.  COVID-19 has required us to think out of the box on a daily basis.  February found us in the middle of the “Big

Freeze,” breaking 70-year-old weather records with pipes breaking, schools closing, and grocery stores running out of food.  Truly a time for the record books, we find ourselves needing one another more than ever just to survive.  At this writing some are still struggling to recover.  It’s no wonder our list of items accomplished and upcoming activities is limited.

I would like to take the time to recognize and congratulate the Auxiliary to VFW Post 8539 in Lampasas on their one-year anniversary.  It is a testament to the leadership and can-do attitude of the members of both the Lampasas Post and Auxiliary and a great example of what the VFW and Auxiliary can accomplish working together.  Thank you, Dan Swanson, Commander and Betty King, President!  Your leadership is appreciated.

In spite of the bad weather, Salute to Hospitalized Veterans was a success.  Due to COVID restrictions at the VA Hospital, our donations to our veterans were not able to be distributed in person.  But the VAVS Reps and hospital personnel worked together to be sure our veterans were not forgotten.  Thanks to all that participated.

                                                              What’s Up?

March 27th – District 14 Family Freedom Festival in Marble Falls Post 10376 (Click to read about the Festival Flyer & Car & Bike Flyer).  This is an Auxiliary project and all Auxiliaries are highly encouraged to participate.  There are fun things planned around the Festival both the evening before and the day of the event, including a motorcycle ride through Hill Country.  The response from those wanting to get involved has been record breaking inside and outside our organization.  Contact Michele Anderson, Event Chair at (651) 233-8365 or d14auxsec@gmail.com for more information.

April 18th – Our last District meeting of the 2020 – 2021 year including District Auxiliary elections will be held at Post 1820 in Temple.  Please mark your calendar and watch for further details.
