District 14 Commander Monthly Comments

January 1, 2022

I sincerely hope everyone had a blessed and safe Christmas, and Santa filled your stocking with goodies instead of coal. If that’s not the case, there’s still next year! LOL!

A big BZ (well done) to Post 3892, Harker Heights, for being the first post to reach 100% + 1 membership (101.31%). I know the other posts can also reach this goal.

All Post Commanders should pay close attention to stat sheets. There may be some items that were not posted to your account. Remember John Jowers has not only District 14 to enter, but all districts in the big state of Texas!

Our number one Priority regarding veterans is to insure their well-being. If you know of a veteran in distress, please act. The second priority is recruitment and retentions. The goal for each post is 100% + 1, to convert three or more annual members to LIFE membership, and at least one to LEGACY. A larger membership radiates a louder voice in Washington.

Commanders and staff must contact unpaid members and potentially new members to explain the many benefits of the VFW. Motivate all your members to do this on a regular basis. Plan your membership drives ahead of time. One drive is never enough. The membership chairman, with the aid of members, can set up more than one recruiting station. There is still time to achieve the goal of 100% + 1.

Please plan on showing your Post’s support of the institution of the new Fort Hood Post 12209. The date and time were previously sent out. A big EZ to Comrade Keller for running point in establishing this new post.

Please keep in your prayers the family of Delores Miller, Past President of the District 14 Auxiliary, who passed on December 17, 2021. We wish the best to Kat Carter who has stepped up from Senior Vice to fill the position.

VPRs due in January 2022

  -  Pearl Harbor, January 5

  -  Second quarter Post Audit, January 31

Happy New Year, stay safe and keep the momentum going!
