District 14 Commander Monthly Comments

February 2018\9

As we start our last six (6) months of 2018-2019 year, I want to start by saying that I am so proud of District 14 Post Commanders and members. Without your efforts and guidance, the District would not be at 102.25% at our January 19, 2019 District meeting at Post 9192 in Killen. We had 9 Posts that were 100% or more and one at 98%. Shown below is a picture of Post Comrades with the State Commander Inge Conley, District 14 Commander Loy D. Gardner II and VFW Auxiliary President Dorles Miller.

I would like to thank Post 9192 David Reed and his staff for their hospitality and hard work on hosting District 14 meeting. Job well done!

We had another outstanding Mid-Winter Round-Up in Austin at the Doubletree and I would like to express my gratitude for the all comrades and brothers & sisters of the VFW Auxiliary who attended the Round-Up in Austin. Again, we had another fantastic hospitality room and I would like to thank all who helped with preparation and worked in the hospitality room. It was a great success and we received wonderful comments and reviews from our comrades across the state.

We have two Post Commanders and District 14 Commander that were winners in the “2018-2019 Early Bird Award - Legislative Conference Contest Winners” in Washington D.C. from March 3rd through the 7th. Post 4008 Commander Gary Leofsky, Post 9192 Carlo Davis and myself (Loy Dean Gardner II) each would receive a $1,00.00 stipend for attending the conference.

As I go around to all the Posts this quarter my theme will be focused on the upcoming election in April. I encourage all members in the District to think about what can I do for the District. If you want to run for a position, this is the time to let the leadership know and Past Commanders, so they can advise you down the right path. Also, go visit our Posts in the District too. Get your name out there and be seen.

Remember as we start our 3rd Quarter we still have some work to do on community services and VPRs. Some Posts still need to work on their members. Remember Post Commanders if you think you are in the running for “All-American you need to pay your National Map donation before April 1, 2019

Commanders remember it’s your responsibility to ensure that your VPR’s and any other correspondences sent to Department has been received and processed.

To the Comrades and many dedicated members of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the VFW Auxiliary across this District, again I “THANK” each one of you for all you do for our Veterans.

Yours in Camaraderie,

Loy Dean Gardner II
