Chaplain Corner - September 2019

From the Chaplain’s Pen................................................................Chaplain Al Lowe
Back again with a few thoughts.
With this being published, we are now in the 1st quarter of the year. Soon we will start the 2nd quarter and we will be turning over the calendar to begin 2020! I do hope our vision of a new year, a new decade will be clearer and more optimistic than has been the previous year, previous decade. I think I can aid and assist in our striving for a better community.
For the past couple of months, I have visited several Districts doing training on the means and manners of the Memorial Service. The Memorial Service is found in the VFW Ritual and is not something to be taken lightly, or simply ignored. The Memorial is the opportunity that not less than once a year we recognize our Comrades who have died. We must be honorable and grateful for these men and women who have served their country - our country - in a time and place of combat.
I encourage everyone to read the ritual format in the Ritual. Get to know it and how it is prepared and produced. The Memorial is an event that happens at the Post, District, Department, and National levels. And I write directly to the Chaplains who may read this, you play an important part in the Service.
Over the next few months I will be giving focus and interest to the Memorial and I hope you will also.
Take care, God Bless...
