Chaplain Corner - March 2020
March 1, 2020
From the Chaplain’s Pen..........................................................................Chaplain Al Lowe
I have been doing some reading lately. I have always been interested in history and am reading books of American History. I took a course at Texas A&M Central Texas several years ago which caused me to realize the importance of knowing where this nation came from, and possibly where it is going.
Right now, I am reading David McCullough's biography of John Adams. This is a pretty in depth writing of our second president of the United States and one of the Founding Fathers of our great nation. Among other things, along with Thomas Jefferson and a couple others on the committee, the Declaration of Independence was written. What I did not know is that it was signed on July 2, 1776, not July 4. I will leave it to you to do the research as to why.
We approach a very important time in the life – or death – of our nation. This year, 2020, we will vote for our Federal and political leadership, i.e. our President, Congressmen, and the local state and community leadership. No one candidate is more or less important than the other. And ALL demand our attention.
The Comrades of the Veterans of Foreign Wars have literally fought for this opportunity to vote. To be a comrade in the VFW, one must have served the military is a combat situation. Personally, I am a veteran of Vietnam and Iraq. And I take my service very seriously. As I write this note, I “pre-voted” in Texas – I voted this past Monday. I will not tell you for whom I voted, and I will not ask you for whom you voted. Only that you VOTE.
Much rides on YOUR vote. Many elections have been won or lost by a single vote – many lost because Americans failed to vote! Be that GREAT AMERICAN – express your given and fought for responsibility by voting.
Take care, I will see you down range.
