 Chaplain Corner - January 2019

January 1, 2019

From the Chaplain’s Pen………………………………....………………… Dr. Al Lowe

Welcome to January 2019. Normally one will look back over activities accomplished, for instance graduation from high school (1964), entrance into the Army (1966), first child born (1969), and so many more. (the year noted is the year the event happened to me). Maybe you might sit down and write down those critical events in your life.

After you have identified some of events, try remembering what effect you had on YOUR life. For instance, I joined the Army in 1966 and spent a year in Vietnam. My daughter born in 1969, now a professor at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. I completed college and seminary in 1985 and returned to the Army as a chaplain. Over the next 20 years I touched many soldiers and family members.

Now however, I am going to think forward, and encourage you to do the same.  Sometime this year, I am going to go fishing with my son. And sometime this year I am going with my entire family on a vacation. These are a couple of my personal/family goals. But to all who will read this, perhaps we might combine our thoughts as to what we intend to do for and with the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

I will go to the Mid-Winter gathering and be able to contact many with District Commanders and Chaplains. Later I will go to the State Convention where I intend to place my name into consideration for election as State Chaplain; this will be my third year. It is my intention through the coming year to personally visit District meetings. I plan to be more active in the spiritual health and welfare of this wonderful group of veterans in hospital visitation, funerals, births, weddings, leading in special classes at the District and Post levels – all tied up into making myself more available!

I encourage you intentionally to give your personal time and energy to your family, your community, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

I will start – if I can be of any service to you, give me a call.

Blessings and may this be a very Happy New Year to you.
