Chaplain Corner - February 2020
February 1, 2020
From the Chaplain’s Pen ………………………………..................…… Chaplain Al Lowe
It is difficult for me to realize that we enter the month of February already. It seems that the older I get, the quicker is the time between months – years – DECADES. While I find it somewhat easy to realize that my wife and I have been married 50+ years, I find it equally difficult to realize that it has been only 15 years since I retired from the Army.
For the past couple of years, I have been working on the Memorial Service. There is the correct way to do a Memorial and our Ritual gives some pretty specific guidance. There is the requirements of the Roll Call, the presentation of the flowers, the recognition of the POW Table, and the playing of Taps. Now these items are required. In my travels I have found different “traditions” conducted in the Memorial by the different Districts and Posts. Generally, my guidance is that the Memorial is to show honor and respect to the Comrades and Auxiliary members who have passed during the previous year; and if what 'you' are doing does not show honor and respect – DON'T DO IT!
I encourage you to go the training video for detailed guidance -
