District14 VFW Auxiliary President Monthly Comments

   August 2022

AUGUST! The month that connotates the beginning of the new school year and the beginning of our new term of service. I want to begin by thanking everyone who was able to make it to the “Pre”-School Training at Post 6974 on July 31. Denise DuBois, Department Chair for Mentoring for Leadership covered some basics of which we all needed to be reminded and gave plenty of ideas on how to develop each of our programs. Nine out of ten Auxiliaries were represented with inquisitive minds. We hope you were inspired to begin an active year of serving our Veterans. Thank you again to Auxiliary 6974 for providing a yummy lunch with homemade chicken salad, cold fruits, drinks, and desserts! They say we are welcomed back anytime!!

As I mentioned, July 31 was a PRE-School…meaning the school before the REAL School of Instruction. The REAL school is this coming Saturday, August 6 th beginning sharply at 10:00 am. However, seldom do we get to attend an Auxiliary location that has BREAKFAST! That’s right, Auxiliary 9192 at 301 Wolfe St in Killeen is serving breakfast for $8, so come earlier if you can and support their fund raising. If you miss the breakfast, they will be serving BUILD YOUR OWN HOAGIES for lunch. Check in and grab a seat as we are hoping for even a bigger crowd. Bring your Program Development Guide so that you can make notes for each of the programs. Our own District Program Chairs will describe each of the programs and answer your questions on how to develop each on a local level. We want to hear YOUR ideas, calendars, suggestions, and questions to help each other provide outstanding functions. THIS IS TEAM WORK. You will also hear about recordkeeping, suggestions for compiling minutes and valuable information for Trustees and completing Audits.

Handouts are no longer being provided…on paper. I’m sure everyone has stacks and drawers full of older program information and records of prior events. So as my contribution to the environment of your storage areas and the Earth, I have provided a speed drive to each Auxiliary which shows many resources and forms, some of which you have seen before, and some of which I compiled to make your jobs easier. I will share those with you after our District Program Chairs speak. You may share, compare, and prepare with the contents of this, running off only what you need.

Official Visits begin this month. Be sure to check the resources ahead of time to prepare  for your visits. Hope all School Supply drives are going well, and look forward to all the reports coming in. We also have Labor Day and Patriot Day next month, prime opportunities for Americanism, Patriotic Instructor and VFW reports.

If you want your events on the D14 Auxiliary calendar, send them to me, Eve Butler, or Marissa Anderson ahead of time. We will do our best to show them on the calendar and as Facebook postings. Keep in touch, and let us hear how your events are going
