District 14 Commander Monthly Comments
I would like to express my thanks to all Posts for celebrating our Independence Day within your communities. Our District Organization Training will be on August 17, 2019 at VFW Post 3892. We are looking for a large turnout for training from our Posts across the District and I would like to thank all on your support.
It was great seeing so many members from the District in Orlando for the National Convention. Congratulations to the District and the seven All American Post, we’re going to continue this standard for 2019-2020. The Convention was awesome if you haven’t been to one please try and make the next one in Reno Nevada next year. While at the Convention we elected the new Commander In Chief (William “Doc” Schmitz)
I would like to share some information with you on VPRs – the 2019-2020 year for VPRs started on May 1, 2019. A lot of Commanders get confused on the issue, if you go to the National By-Laws Section 223 of the VFW National Manual of Procedure – Commemorative Dates: “Each Post shall make arrangements for observances of Memorial Day, see that suitable grave markers, wreaths and flags of the United States are placed on the graves of deceased members and, if practicable, conduct Memorial Day Services in the cemeteries in its locality. Each Post shall see that suitable arrangements are made for the observance of Veterans Day, Flag Day and Loyalty Day. Commander Keith King has put out the number of required VPR’s for the 2019-2020 year so read you Texas SOP and stay on top of your VPR’s.
In addition, National VFW Ritual – Commemorative Tributes: “Posts should arrange special ceremonies and all commanders shall alert comrades to their obligations for appropriate commemoration of the following outstanding action dates in U.S. history:
January 27 - Signing of the Vietnam Peace Accord in 1973.
February 15 - Sinking of U.S.S. Maine, 1898.

Commanders, you have 45 to 60 days before we start inspecting each Post across the District. If you need help, please call at 254-371-2579 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are here to help!
My goal for the District is to have all Posts within District 14 to make All-State for 2019-2020. With your help we can achieve this goal. We need our younger comrades help in making this happen this year. Take a new member and start a “MENTOR PROGRAM” with them and others. This way you are building a new foundation for the future. To make your Post and our District goals challenge each member to recruit one member.
In closing I am looking forward to working with each Commander this year. I know as a “TEAM” we will achieve our goals together. Thank you for all your support to the start of 2019-2020 year. Remember, September 21, 2019 at VFW Post 10377 in Lake Belton at 10:00 hrs. this will be our first meeting of the year. Staff Polo Shirt for this meeting will be Red. See You THERE!
Yours in Camaraderie,
Anson L. Booker
